Potty Training Tips Every Parent Should Know
Starting daycare in Arlington, TX can be incredibly stressful for everyone, but it can be especially difficult for your child if they aren’t potty trained yet. Unfortunately, kids can’t be potty trained on your schedule, they will do things in their own time. Regardless of whether your child is just one and a half years old, or they have just turned four, there are a few things that you can do to make potty training easier:
- Get them interested- Although they will start potty training when they are ready, you can start getting them interested at a young age. A great way to do this is by talking to them about it, reading them books, etc.
- Look for signs that they are ready- Is your child suddenly very uncomfortable with their dirty diapers? Have they been asking you about using the toilet? Have they started to become interested in being more independent with other tasks, like getting dressed or bathing? These are all signs that your child is ready to start potty training.
- Make a schedule- In order to form the habit of using the toilet, you will need to make a potty schedule. Take him or her to the restroom every couple of hours, even if they don’t have to go. Make sure you practice the same steps, in the same order, every time.
- Positive reinforcement- Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool when it comes to our kids, so when your child successfully uses the toilet, you should offer them excitement, praise, and a small reward, like stickers.
